In What’s the Big Deal About My Clothes?, Dr. John Bishop deals with an area in which Bible-believing ministries have given a lot of ground in the last half-century—the dress code at Christian schools. He has had years of experience working with young people, both in a Christian camp and in Christian schools.

Dr. Bishop takes a wide-ranging view of the matter in this pamphlet. He not only deals with biblical passages that bear upon the subject, but he also presents the comments of some secular writers and investigates the historical origins of current popular styles, showing that they are not only unchristian, but they are also not neutral when it comes to questions of morality.

His approach shows the need for charity as Christians discuss this touchy topic.  It is stressed that the most important “clothing” for a Christian is that of the inward man.  However, a “well-dressed” inward man should give some testimony of his condition in the way he presents himself as a member of the body of Christ. Even the world recognizes that what we wear sends a clear message to those around us.

Designed to be a concise presentation suitable to be given out in bulk, much of the material in this pamphlet is condensed from Dr. Bishop’s book The Witness of Your Wardrobe. In it, he gives a fuller presentation of his research along with other matters pertinent in the discussion of what attire is proper for a Christian.
